STUDENTS

social-culture

Joining our team means becoming part of a dynamic and supportive environment where you can learn, grow, and make a real impact. As a leading mid-sized public accounting firm in southern Ontario, we provide a platform for students to develop their skills and gain insights into various accounting professions.

Our co-op and internship programs provide students with the opportunity to work on real client projects, develop their technical skills, and gain exposure to different areas of public accounting. Through our co-op program, students can alternate between academic and full-time work terms, allowing them to integrate classroom learning with practical work experience.

Fully Supported Learning

DJB understands the importance of learning and development across all types of professions. We support our future professionals by providing carefully curated resources to new students to ensure they have all the tools they require to succeed. Over the years, many of our students have transferred to full-time staff, management, and eventually to Partners at our Firm. For those working towards a professional designation, DJB provides financial support for students, including paid study and exam leaves and study program coverage.

Coaching Program

Every DJB student is paired with a coach upon joining our team. The coach’s role is to support employee growth and development at all stages of their career path. DJB’s coaches are trained in-house on a collaborative, non-directive, tailored approach to the relationship.

Coaches support students by helping map out and set objectives to achieve their work-term and career goals. This is supported by a fully developed career path program, which maps short-term and long-term benchmarks and provides targeted training to support skills development at key times in an employee’s career. The DJB career path maps the route an employee takes from an entry-level position through successive roles to arrive at their ultimate desired position.

CPA Support Program

At DJB, we want you to succeed. Our team wants to help you make the transition from a graduate to a Professional Accountant. That’s why we’ve created our Common Final Examination (CFE) Training & Buddy Program, where CFE writers are partnered with recent writers within the Firm to help them prepare, offering study guidance and case marking along the way. Our Learning & Development Director also coordinates in-person group study sessions with mentors who are available to answer questions and guide conversations.

DJB can also offer financial assistance to students taking their Master of Accountancy or CPA Professional Education Programs (PEP) to bridge the gap between their school studies and their CFE, helping to mitigate any potential barriers to achieving their goals.

Pre-Approved Programs (PPR) for Practical Experience

We want your designation process to be as smooth as possible. DJB has two (2) Pre-Approved Program routes within CPAO’s PERT system – External Audit and Direct-to-Tax. Both programs incorporate audit and tax work to ensure that your experience is as comprehensive as possible. Because we’re pre-approved, there’s less reporting for you to complete each time you finalize an experience report or return for a work term. DJB also has in-house certified CPA Mentors to assist with your reports and meetings, keeping you on track and confident about your status.

The DJB Difference

As one of Hamilton-Niagara’s Top 100 Employers and one of Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers, we lead in offering our employees an exceptional place to work. We strive to be a leading compensator for student employees in our regions, ensuring that students are recognized for their hard work and contributions. DJB also provides work-life balance and the flexibility to pursue activities and interests outside of work, such as athletics, volunteering, campus involvement, and more.
